Nike – ACG By Pendleton
Nike’s All Conditions Gear Air Mowabb (which gets it’s name from Moab, Utah) was first released in 1991. In 2017 it was being added to the NIKEiD platform. The brief was to create a looping animation that demonstrates the unique customisations that this would make possible.
Creative Director Meirion Pritchard and his team were keen to reference the ACG Nike AirMax2 TVC from 1994. Since we needed to show a lot of different configurations of the shoe we opted to use the TVCs weather conditions as a starting point to highlight the colour changes.
It was a fun challenge to get it all done on time, and all involved were very happy with the result!

I recreated and updated the animations for the weather, adding in a few impacts here and there where the weather elements crossed paths with the shoe. The background sky animation was also quite satisfying to make, and then finally animated some of the textures and lighting on the mountain so that wouldn’t feel too static. The background plates also had to work well as stills, and be supplied in larger formats.
The brief included a variety of deliverables for the animation - including a range of sizes, logos (with and without), durations and file sizes to supply - and each one needed to seamlessly loop back around. In order to meet the deadline this meant keeping things very flexible in After Effects and making sure backgrounds and particle systems could be quickly swapped from horizontal setups to vertical without too much fuss!
